Everyday Cooking Adventures’ Patty Melt Sandwich

I am in dire need of a grocery run, after returning from a trip the past few days. I am down to very little in the fridge, so I had to come up with something using ground beef, defrosted last night, and a few root vegetables.

Since it is below 0 degrees here tonight, I figured burgers on the grill was out of the question. So I decided to attempt a diner favorite, the patty melt. Here’s my rendition of the patty melt:

Patty Melt

Recipe by: Everyday Cooking Adventures, 2013
Serves: 2
Ingredients:
  • Organic ground beef
  • 2 slices swiss cheese
  • 4 slice buttermilk bread (or any sliced sandwich bread of your choice)
  • 1 shallot, sliced (or you can use an onion)
  • 1/2 Tbsp olive oil
  • Condiments of your choice: ketchup, mayo, mustard
Directions:

1. Mold the ground beef into semi-flattened patties to the size of your liking.
2. Heat olive oil in a grill pan on the stovetop. Add the shallot slices and let cook for about 4 minutes on medium until very slightly browned and crisping.
3. Move shallot to the sides of the pan and add patties. Let them cook for about 3 minutes on one side at medium-high heat. Then flip and let them cook another 4 minutes for medium.
4. Toast bread.
5. About 1 minute before patties are done, top each with 1 slice of cheese. Remove from pan once slightly melted and burger is done to your likeness. Place on bottom slice of bread, top with crispy shallots. Add condiments of your choice and top with second slice of bread.
